In October 2021 I spent three weeks at CreateSpaceWales in Ceridigion, West Wales. The residency had been postponed from the previous year (pre-lockdown), but it was a timely chance to come to terms with the recent death of my father and to reset my creativity. Being back in Wales among such glorious scenery was invigorating although nature only indirectly fed my work. I made figure sculptures, drew, painted, took photographs and made some moving images. Outside the studio, nestling at the foot of a small tree was a little china angel with a broken wing. It sparked off a series of thoughts about guardian angels, the film 'Wings of Desire', and Virginia Woolf's essay, 'Killing the Angel in the House'.
